We had the pleasure of collaborating with renowned designer Janice Cripps to bring her vision for this stunning, large-scale country garden to life. Nestled across multiple levels, the garden gracefully wraps around the house, seamlessly blending with the natural landscape. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding woodland bank and framed by majestic Azaleas and Conifers, this garden is a true retreat.
Our clients wanted to maximise their outdoor space by creating multiple seating areas to enjoy the garden throughout the day and across seasons, while still maintaining a secluded, woodland feel. The garden’s natural slopes were cleverly utilised to provide varied spaces for relaxation and entertaining.
Traditional layered planting fills the borders, featuring classic roses trained over elegant structural arches. Multi-stemmed Amelanchiers and a repositioned Rhododendron soften the edges, adding rich texture and blurring the lines between formal lawn and natural woodland backdrop. This layering ensures year-round interest with beautiful colour and foliage changes.
Clay pavers play a key role throughout the design, forming welcoming entrances, a dining terrace, and cladding a striking 30-metre retaining wall — a standout feature that ties the garden together. The warm tones of the pavers complement the planting scheme and enhance the property’s traditional character.
Texture and tranquillity are central themes, highlighted by a restored 30-year-old cascading water feature. Flowing over mossy boulders beside two mature Acer trees, the water gently empties into a lily pond that supports local wildlife, creating a peaceful haven.
Despite challenging winter conditions during construction, we maintained close communication with our clients, ensuring every detail was carefully considered and delivered on schedule. Our clients are thrilled with their transformed garden — especially their clay-paved terrace, which has become their favourite secluded spot to enjoy a coffee and the stunning surroundings.
